Pedalling an ocean, funding the fight against dementia

In December 2012, James Mouland and Justin Coleman will leave Puerto Mogan, Gran Canaria, in their converted ocean going rowing boat, Atlantic Song.

They will be attempting to pedal across the Atlantic Ocean, reaching Barbados between eight and ten weeks later.

It’s a journey of some 3000 miles and will require each of them to make around 4 million pedal strokes.

More people have climbed Everest than pedalled an ocean.

The team will take all their own food and make their own water, and be pedalling approximately 4 hours on and 4 hours off in the day time and 6 hours on 6 hours off at night

If they succeed, they’ll become the oldest pair to pedal an ocean and only the fourth in total. Justin will be the oldest person ever to have achieved the feat.

James and Justin are aiming to raise £50,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society
